About ZAHRI

The Zanzibar Health Research Institute (ZAHRI), established under Act No. 5 of 2020, is a prominent institution of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar. Its mandate is to conduct health research and disseminate scientific findings aimed at improving healthcare practices, treatment methods, and disease control strategies in Zanzibar.

Position Overview

ZAHRI invites applications from qualified individuals across Africa to fill the position of Senior Researcher on a three-year renewable contract.

Reporting to: Director General
Employment Type: Full-time

Applicant Qualifications

Candidates should meet the following requirements:

Educational Background:
- A PhD in a health-related field from a recognized university.
Experience:
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience working with or being affiliated with research institutions.
Track Record:
- Demonstrated success as a Principal Investigator (PI) in securing research grants.
Publications:
- A minimum of five (5) peer-reviewed scientific journal publications post-PhD.

Key Responsibilities

Grant Acquisition:
- Secure funding for health research aligned with strategic priorities.
Research Leadership:
- Design, oversee, and implement approved health studies, delivering actionable, evidence-based findings.
Mentorship:
- Guide and mentor junior researchers to build their competencies in research.
Dissemination of Findings:
- Publish research outcomes in reputable scientific journals and present at national and international conferences.
Policy Advocacy:
- Identify gaps in existing health priorities and contribute to shaping national health policies.
Planning and Development:
- Assist in creating annual research plans and contribute to strategic initiatives, budgets, and priorities.
Collaboration:
- Build and foster partnerships between public and private institutions to enhance the impact of health research.
Other Duties:
- Undertake additional tasks as assigned by the Director General.
