Tanzania Wildlife Management Authority (TAWA) was brought up in 2014 so that to take out Wildlife Management into functions and originally performed by the wildlife division in the ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism. The institute focus on protection, Management and administration of wildlife resources outside National Parks and Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The work of Conservation comes from wildlife conservation Act No 5 of 2009 and subsequent regulations that aimed to ensure the wildlife resources are available outside and inside TANAPA
The Institute focuses on implementation in the response to the rapid rise in the wildlife crime , including poaching and illegal ivory trade, rhino horn and other animal product experienced in Tanzania that lead yo consequent decline in the wildlife populations basically of Africa elephants , were the institute work had to reinforce law that are enforcing anti poaching patrols
