About the Role

GardaWorld is seeking a Senior Human Resources Officer to join our team in Arusha, Tanzania. In this role, you will be responsible for managing industrial relations and providing essential support on HR, legal, and administrative matters. Your efforts will contribute to maintaining a fair, respectful, and high-performance culture across the Arusha branch and its supporting regions.

This position will also involve collaborating with HR management systems on country-wide HR strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Industrial Relations & HR Policy Implementation: Provide advice, implement policies, and ensure that company practices foster a diverse, high-performance culture.
  • Legal & Disciplinary Matters: Work closely with the company’s legal team to handle internal labor/civil matters, including disciplinary hearings, labor disputes, and the drafting of official HR communications such as promotions, terminations, and notifications.
  • Employee Relations & Welfare: Organize and promote employee relations, social welfare activities, and support programs to ensure a positive and respectful work environment.
  • Dispute Resolution: Mediate and resolve internal conflicts using appropriate conflict management techniques. Provide consultation on problem-solving, dispute resolution, and regulatory compliance.
  • Grievances & Complaints Handling: Investigate and recommend actions for addressing grievances, harassment, and discrimination complaints.
  • Trade Union Relations: Develop and maintain positive relations with trade unions and their representatives.
  • Discipline Management: Oversee and manage employee discipline according to company policies, ensuring compliance with disciplinary procedures.
  • Employee Documentation & Recordkeeping: Monitor staff records to ensure they are complete and up to date, including contracts, job descriptions, and other necessary documents.
  • Leave & Attendance Management: Administer leave and attendance systems and ensure accurate records.
  • HR Reporting: Prepare and submit various HR reports, including details on leave, terminations, new hires, and transfers.
  • Staff Recruitment & Appraisals: Oversee recruitment processes and coordinate staff appraisals, training, and professional development initiatives.
  • Benefits Administration: Serve as the key point of contact for medical schemes, assisting with enrolment, access, claims, and withdrawals.
  • Legal & Compliance Support: Work closely with the Legal and Compliance Regional team to ensure HR processes align with legal standards and company policies.
  • Other Duties: Undertake any other HR-related tasks assigned by management.

Principal Outputs of the Role

  • Timely and accurate submission of reports.
  • Effective management of employee relations and HR matters within the required timelines.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Law, Social Sciences, Business Administration, or any related field.
  • Experience: A minimum of 8 years of experience in HR, specifically within a labour-intensive, unionized environment, with at least 3 years managing Employee Relations.
  • Certifications: Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification is a plus.
  • Knowledge & Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of labour laws, employment relations, and employee handbooks.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
    • Experience with legal research techniques and managing complex HR processes.
    • Strong problem-solving, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work with minimal supervision, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Management & Leadership Skills

  • Excellent leadership and management abilities, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Proven ability to plan, coordinate, and resolve HR-related issues effectively.
  • High moral integrity and sensitivity when dealing with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and negotiate with diverse teams.
